January – March 2027

“In our experience, BPYAP gives artists the most independence possible for their residencies while also providing unparalleled facilities. This completely stands out from many other residencies.”

Britten Pears Young Artist Ensemble 2025–26

Is this course for me?

This series offers emerging chamber ensembles the opportunity to take time away from their usual commitments and focus on their development as a chamber ensemble. This could be a chance for dedicated rehearsal time, exploring new repertoire or time out to reflect and refresh. Ensembles must have already been working together for a least two years.

Who will work with me?

As part of a residency, ensembles will be able to work with a UK or EU based mentor to provide 1–2 days of coaching. We will do our best to enable you to work with a mentor of your choice.

What can I expect on this course?

Each residency lasts a fortnight and includes two lunchtime concerts at the Jubilee Hall in Aldeburgh, the original home of the Aldeburgh Festival.

This opportunity is all about flexibility for the ensemble. Chamber groups are able to plan their own schedule and take the time to listen and work on what is important to them. You will have exclusive use of one of our world class studios or rehearsal rooms for the full period.

As part of a residency, we encourage ensembles to also engage with our other strands of work at Britten Pears Arts, including our Aldeburgh Young Musicians programme, work in local schools, people in later life & music in the criminal justice system.

There are no course fees and we will cover travel costs, accommodation and provide most meals. Additionally, we have a limited budget to provide financial support, including help with childcare costs or removing barriers to access.

Who can apply?

Applications are open to chamber ensembles of between three and six members of any instrumentation (including vocal ensembles) and with any areas of repertoire focus. This course is for existing ensembles that have been formed for at least two years with substantive performance experience.
