Saturdays and Sundays | 10.30am – 4.30pm

Venue: The Red House, Aldeburgh

As part of your visit to The Red House, come and explore our new colourful Dreamworld room created by artist and illustrator Ellamae Statham.

The Dreamworld room is dedicated to Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears’ love for one another. A big sprinkle of Ellamae’s artistic magic has been poured into this art installation, totally transforming the space into a whimsical, colourful wonderland that celebrates their love story.

“Benjamin and Peter were best known as two absolute geniuses within the music world and are still credited and celebrated to this day. They helped so many others pursue music and follow their own creative dreams, so I am very proud and honoured to have been asked to transform this particular space which was formerly called The Imogen Holst Room.

Every detail is meticulously drawn by hand, right down to the fluff of a cloud and the twinkle of a shooting star. Memories and moments in life can pass us by, and sometimes be forgotten – this dreamworld room keeps their story alive in different art mediums, with the show stopper dreamworld, the acoustic wool felt room divider, the vinyled mirrors, The Red House and garden 3D piece, and lastly the laser cut 3D paper pop-up artworks...

...As an artist I see things very visually, and I know how powerful colour, pattern and design is and can be used to ignite one’s imagination and keep things fun and beautiful at the same time. I’d like the room to make people feel magical and inspired by their story. There are lots of things to take in and celebrate their wonderful romantic relationship, as well as supporting the LGBTQ community.

Music and creativity go hand in hand and making this whimsical wonderland for them has truly been a privilege.”
