Join sound artist Alice Boyd for a guided field recording workshop which follows the scenic route from Snape Maltings to Iken.

Taking place during her week-long residency exploring environmental change through sound, this session invites you to listen closely to the Suffolk landscape and capture its sonic details.

The Iken walk is a local favourite, passing through reedbeds, saltmarshes, and farmland, with wide skies and views across the River Alde. Along the way, Alice will introduce key techniques for capturing ambient sound, sharing practical tips for listening deeply and recording the subtle nuances of the environment.

The workshop is suitable for all skill levels, with a particular focus on beginners. By the end of the session, you’ll have had the chance to experiment with field recording, and explore how listening and recording can be powerful tools for creative expression and environmental awareness.

Alice is here on a week-long residency transforming her BBC Radio 4 documentary Shifting Soundscapes into a new live solo performance blending music, spoken word, and sound recordings. She has been making field recordings at the sites where Martyn Stewart recorded 50 years ago, allowing us to hear how landscapes have changed through sound.
