Alice Boyd presents a sonic meditation on environmental change, comparing soundscapes recorded by Martyn Stewart 50 years ago with those of today, using archive audio, field recordings, and live musical performance.

Developed during a week-long residency, this Open Session offers a first glimpse into Alice Boyd’s new live adaptation of her BBC Radio 4 documentary Shifting Soundscapes. Combining Martyn Stewart’s archive recordings with her own field audio, Alice performs live using layered vocals, synths, and field recordings to create an evolving soundscape in real time.

This intimate solo performance blends music, spoken word, and sound art to explore how our natural environments have changed over the past 50 years, inviting audiences into a rich, immersive listening experience shaped by environmental storytelling and experimental live composition.
