The fairytales and folk melodies of Stravinsky’s magical Firebird Suite are deconstructed with a living programme note presented by Tom Service – and then reassembled as the orchestra performs the whole electrifying work from memory, with thrilling virtuosity and heightened communication.

Outi Tarkiainen’s earth-shattering The Ring of Fire and Love takes its dramatic inspiration from natural phenomena: a solar eclipse, a volcanic belt, and the birth of a baby.

In joyful celebration, pianist Alexandre Tharaud joins the orchestra for Ravel’s 2nd Piano Concerto, a melting pot of jazz, classical and folk influences.
