Taking the cello to places it’s never been before, Ayanna expands the instrument’s vocabulary through her expressive, multi-genre playing and by exploiting its percussive potential – tapping and strumming it, even using it like a drum. Blending her classical training and Jamaican heritage, she creates a sound that’s both deeply rooted and boldly forward-looking, with tonight’s concert previewing songs from her forthcoming album New Roots.
