Winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition 2024 Chamber Music Prize, Junyan Chen, brings her piano quartet to Chamber Music in Residence with ensemble members Charlotte Spruit, Edgar Francis and Hugh Mackay.

Ensemble Jackalope presents a union of protégé and teacher, pairing Enescu’s passionate second piano quartet with the elegant Quartet in C minor by his former mentor, Gabriel Fauré.

Composed in the 1940s and bursting with late-Romantic intensity, George Enescu’s Piano Quartet No.2 reveals bold harmonic language and deep lyricism. In contrast, Fauré’s Piano Quartet No.1, considered a masterpiece and composed in his youth, demonstrates elegance and melodic beauty alongside moments of fiery virtuosity.

Ensemble Jackalope are supported by The Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust.
