To mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War and the liberation of Auschwitz, Dr Lucy Walker Oliver Soden and Dr Simon Callaghan reflect on art born from atrocity.

A morning of talks, music and reflection marking 80 years since the end of World War II and the liberation of Auschwitz. Dr Lucy Walker will explore music created in devastating circumstances, and how music of all kinds allows and encourages us to remember. Dr Simon Callaghan will perform a piano sonata by Viktor Ullmann, one of the many composers who lost his life in the death camps. And writer Oliver Soden will read a piece of original fiction based on a true story: a powerful tale of loss, and a beautiful act of musical memorial.
