For the academic year of 2026–27, we are hosting two Friday Afternoons LIVE events (previously known as “Big Sing”) for KS2 and KS1 students across Suffolk and Norfolk to enjoy this special mass choir experience here at Snape Maltings.
  
In future, we plan to expand this offer to KS3 and KS4, so high schools please still register your interest below.

Friday Afternoons LIVE events are designed to fit within the hours of a school day:  
Your group will travel to Snape Maltings. On arrival, you’ll be shown to your school’s allocated seats where you’ll enjoy a morning of singing in a choir with hundreds of other students led by our Friday Afternoons Choir Leaders. We look at one song at a time and look at any tricky bits or take instructions from our choir leaders before enjoying a sing-through all together.  

Please note: the KS2 event will happen in the Concert Hall, while the KS1 event will take place in the Britten Studio. This is partly due to construction work on site next April, restricting access to the Concert Hall, but we also feel the Britten Studio is a fantastic choral space and is often a popular choice for activities and performances for our youngest visitors. 

CPD and school visit 
As part of the experience, all participating teachers will attend the twilight CPD session (4.30 – 6pm) here at Snape Maltings with our Choir Leaders to learn the repertoire before handing it over to you to teach your students in your singing sessions back at school. Students don’t need to be off-book, and lyrics will be available to follow on the day, however we expect that all groups are familiar with all the songs to get the most out of the experience. Your school will also get a visit from the Choir Leaders at a suitable time to work with your students for a short workshop, to build confidence before the day. The dates will be specified on your application form and will be a condition of your group taking part. 

Filming the concert 
The morning will be filmed to produce a Sing-Along digital concert (click on the banner below to find out more).  
We will only be filming when the students are in a standing position and are “performance ready”. If students want to take part but don’t want to be filmed, this is possible. We offer rainbow-coloured lanyards so our camera team know who to avoid filming or to blur out in the edit.

Once finished, your group have the choice of leaving the site or stay to have your packed lunches in your seats before travelling back to school.
