The Ash Grove
Benjamin Britten had a great affinity to both young voices and to traditional music from the British Isles. This Welsh tune, arranged by the pacifist Britten during World War 2, shows a delight in youthful innocence but the piano part in the middle section gives a darker more foreboding warning.
