Lady on the Mountain
Jon Boden explains that in its original form, this was a traditional ‘children’s skipping song’ designed to be sung in the playground and to take the singer to another world whilst providing brief respite from the school day. Collected by Folksong collectors in the early 20th Century in Colchester, Essex, this song would have certainly fulfilled that purpose for children living in the flat lands of East Anglia!
