Britten Pears Arts is a pioneering music, arts and heritage charity based at two beautiful locations on the Suffolk coast: The Red House, Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings.

The Red House was the home of composer Benjamin Britten and his partner, the singer Peter Pears. This historic house is surrounded by five acres of garden and includes purpose-built Archive and exhibition buildings. Open to the public it offers a fascinating view of domestic life in the mid-twentieth century.

Once again we are looking forward to welcoming visitors, families and holiday makers to The Red House this year. The Red House will re-open on the 3 April and we looking for two seasonal team members to greet visitors, sell tickets, keep the retail area clean and well stocked, assist with general enquiries and provide refreshments to visitors. These roles will also work very closely with our team of volunteers who are stewards in the house and library. Ideally candidates should be able to start with us w/c 24 March for training and be available to work until the end of September (14hrs role) or end of October (28hrs role).

This is a wide-ranging role offering plenty of opportunities to learn about working in a museum and heritage setting, gaining new skills and experience.

We are looking for:

  • Friendly, flexible and versatile people who enjoy working with others.
  • Customer service experience.
  • People who are comfortable being part of our Emergency First Aid team at The Red House (qualifying course to be undertaken).
  • Confident communication and problem solving skills.
  • Confident IT and admin skills.
  • Enjoy being part of a well-rounded visitor experience, including refreshments, information and retail.
  • People who can commit to the role until early November and who are willing to work some additional hours to help with the June Festival and other planned events.

2 part time roles available:

Role 1 – 28hrs per week, Thursday to Sunday – 24 March – 2 November 2025

Role 2 – 14hrs per week, Thursday to Sunday – 24 March – 28 September 2025

We are an equal opportunities employer and believe that diversity strengthens and enriches us. We positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates of all ages and from all backgrounds, in particular from minority ethnic backgrounds and disabled candidates who are currently under-represented at Britten Pears Arts.

To apply please send a completed application form and covering letter to our HR team careers@brittenpearsarts.org . Please be clear about which role you are applying for or whether you would like to be considered for either vacancy.

Closing date, 0930hrs Tuesday 18 February 2025
