Jon Hargreaves works as a composer/arranger and conductor across genres and the diverse forms of music making today. Recently, he has composed for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s educational project, Sounds of the Deep (2025), and for ‘Toqnasimk: Carrying the Burden together’, one of the Pjila’si sessions for Symphony Nova Scotia, in Canada.

He co-founded the Octandre Ensemble with composer Christian Mason in 2011 and has been at the helm of many special performances and recordings in his role as Co-Artistic Director. In 2023 he recorded Screens, a retrospective of the British composer Frank Denyer (released on Another Timbre records at 220), and in 2019, he brought together the World Premiere performance of Denyer’s epic The Fish that became the Sun at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.

He has recorded a disc of Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian’s music with members of the London Symphony Orchestra.

Until 2022 he was Co-Artistic Director of the Nevis Ensemble, a chamber orchestra playing a broad repertoire in a wide variety of settings, from the top of Ben Nevis to the remote isles of St. Kilda.
