This delightful bungalow is nestled within The Red House garden. It was built in 1972 for Miss Hudson, Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears’ housekeeper, when she retired. It was designed by the architect Peter Collymore who worked on the Red Studio (Mary Potter’s house and art studio) in 1963 and Britten and Pears’ library (1963-64). It saw some further updates to the interior in the late 1990s and more recently with furnishings that reflect the period in which it was built.
The property is in a secluded location behind the kitchen garden. There is a gate and path leading to the front door which opens to a small hallway. Through the second door is an open plan, light living area with a comfortable sofa and chairs which face the curved fireplace. Behind the living area is the kitchen with a dining table and four chairs. It is compact but has everything needed for a holiday. There are French doors on either side leading into an enclosed garden that surrounds the property.
At opposite ends behind the fireplace, there are two large offset pivot doors that lead to the bedrooms: one with a king bed, bedside tables ,and a chest of drawers. The second bedroom has twin beds which can be made into a super king on request. There is a fitted wardrobe in each of the bedrooms. They are light and airy with windows overlooking the garden.
There is one bathroom with a shower, toilet and hand basin.
The property is ideal for a couple or a family group.
