The Red House, Aldeburgh
Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears’ home in Aldeburgh offers a charming snapshot into the couple’s life. Lovingly preserved, the house and gardens are open for all to explore.
The Red House is seasonally open for general admission on Thursdays – Sundays, 10.30am–4.30pm. Last entry 3.30pm.
Admission includes entry to the downstairs of the house, library, composition studio, exhibitions and garden.
On Thursdays and Fridays, there is also the option to visit the Archive.
To explore the whole site, it will take approximately 4–6 hours.
If you have one hour, our must-sees are the House, Composition Studio, Library and Garden.
If you have more time we recommend you see Spiritual Britten and Kitchen Gallery exhibitions, and sign up for a Stories from the Archive talk and/or led viewing of upstairs rooms of the House.
Conservation and Bags:
Due to the special and unique nature of our collection and how we present it to visitors, we are following best practice measures and introducing a no bag policy for the house as part of your visit to The Red House. Free lockers are provided to store your belongings whilst visiting the interior of the house.
Group bookings are available Monday to Sunday and can include coffee, cake and light lunches or a talk or special tour of the garden. To find out more, visit Group Bookings.
