A sheer joy from start to finish, Dvořák’s optimistic Serenade for Strings is complemented here by the cool elegance of Stravinsky’s ballet score Apollon Musagète.

Praised for their precision, infectious energy and light and transparent sound, the National Youth String Orchestra brings youthful verve to these works, alongside Gipps’ musical portrait of a Lake District garden, full of bittersweet melancholy that’s reminiscent of Vaughan Williams.
