Advanced Young Musicians
Advanced Young Musicians (formerly Aldeburgh Young Musicians) is Britten Pears Arts’ musical progression programme for talented young musicians from Suffolk and East Anglia, based at Snape Maltings – the iconic home of Benjamin Britten, Peter Pears and the Aldeburgh Festival. Recognised by the Department for Education as a Centre for Advanced Training (CAT), we support creative, curious and committed young people to grow as musicians, develop their skills, and explore new artistic possibilities.
AYM offers a rich and collaborative approach to musical training, with a strong emphasis on improvisation, creative response and collaboration, we encourage students to develop their own musical voice in an open and supportive environment.
We are not building a specific ensemble and welcome applications from ambitious young musicians working in any style or discipline.

A new chapter from September 2026
From September 2026, AYM enters an exciting new chapter, with expanded opportunities, a refreshed structure, and a new home in the redeveloped Britten Pears building at Snape Maltings. Purpose-built studio spaces will provide an inspiring environment for creativity, collaboration and exceptional music-making.
Students will be closely connected to the wider Britten Pears Arts programme, with opportunities to take part in the Aldeburgh Festival, attend masterclasses, observe rehearsals, and engage with an international community of artists.
